Transition

The ‘Gathering’ exhibition in Faversham is now done and dusted, but its closure was swiftly followed by the opening of ‘Transition’ in Canterbury (see the Exhibitions page for details). Running through until October, it’s showing in one of the oldest buildings in the city, Conquest House in Palace Street, which is an amazing venue with a very beautiful half-timbered late Tudor exterior. But this conceals a much older interior, boasting a Norman Undercroft and a C14th galleried hall, as well as a decorative C17th fireplace. 

The building is reputed to be where, in 1170, the four knights infamously plotted the vicious murder of Arch Bishop Thomas Becket! And if all that isn’t enough to whet your appetite, in addition to hosting art exhibitions in the gallery, at Conquest House you can also see plays, concerts and comedy nights, or join in the regular art courses and specialist workshops that happen there. All in all, well worth a visit, wouldn’t you say?
